Fiat's Vice President of Design has revealed the company could offer a 500X Abarth.

Speaking to CarAdvice, Roberto Giolito said “The 500X is a good body for Abarth." He added, "It's absolutely perfect in terms of drivability, control. The driving seat is perfectly measured to control the car. So the Abarth [variant] would be perfect.”
He stopped short of confirming plans for a production model but hinted there would be plenty of styling tweaks and the model would be instantly recognizable as an Abarth.
There's no word on what would power the 500X Abarth but the standard model offers a variety of engines including a 2.4-liter Tigershark engine that develops 184 PS (137 kW).

Looks great doesn't it! I hope they do it, even though I'm not bothered about the performance that much I do like the improved looks.

When it will be officially introduced, the new Fiat 500X Abarth will be instantly recognisable as an Abarth thanks to its aggressive body kit and large alloy wheels. Its interior design will be slightly updated too but the most significant change will be made under its bonnet, where a brand new and powerful engine will be providing the necessary output. More details on the upcoming Fiat 500X Abarth are limited for the moment and will be announced officially once the model will be ready!

It currently only does a few versions of the 500 and that's it; they also used to do the Punto too, but that variant was discontinued last year.

This car makes absolutely no sense though. Why would anybody want to buy a 160 PS family car with stiff suspension. Then again, the Nissan Juke Nismo doesn't make much sense on paper either, but is selling quite well.

Maybe you only carry the family around at weekends and like to have a bit of fun during the week?

I'm absolutely a potential buyer of an abarth 500x, not coming out until the end of 15 though from my sources at Fiat dealership.
